Switching to Keygrain

You do not have to change everything at once. Keep your current manager running while you transition one site at a time.

Three Steps

Exportfrom your old manager
Importinto Keygrain
Rotateone site at a time

The migration wizard reads your export file, creates a service entry for each site, and queues them for password rotation. You work through the queue at your own pace — there is no deadline.

Supported Sources

LastPass
Bitwarden
1Password
Chrome
Firefox

Each source uses a standard CSV or JSON export format. The migration wizard auto-detects the format and maps fields to Keygrain services.

Export Instructions

How the Migration Wizard Works

  1. Export your passwords from your current manager (CSV or JSON).
  2. Open the wizard in the Keygrain extension or web app.
  3. Drop in the file. The wizard parses it locally — nothing is uploaded.
  4. Review the list. Duplicates and invalid entries are flagged.
  5. Save. Each site becomes a Keygrain service with a counter of 1 (the starting version — increment it later if you need to rotate a password).

From here, visit each site and update your password to the Keygrain-derived one. The extension prompts you when it detects a site that still uses your old password.

What About My Old Passwords?

Keygrain derives fresh passwords — it does not reuse your imported ones. Your old passwords continue working on each site until you change them. This means you can run both managers side-by-side for as long as you need. Nothing breaks until you are ready.

As you rotate each site, the extension marks it as migrated. You can see your progress at a glance and pick up where you left off.

Security note: After importing, delete your export file. It contains your old passwords in plaintext.
